Africa-Press – Angola. A meeting between the Angolan ambassador to Zambia, Albino Malungo, and the Angolan community residing in the city of Livingstone, 476 kilometers from the capital (Lusaka), will mark, on Thursday, the celebrations of the 4th of April, Independence Day Peace and National Reconciliation, in this African country.

According to a note from the diplomatic mission,Albino Malungo will speak, among other aspects, about the importance of this date that marked the end of the Angolan war, with the celebration of the Luena Peace Agreements, in the province of Moxico, initialed on 04 April 2002.

The city of Livingstone is home to more than six thousand Angolans, is known mainly for its proximity to the “Victoria Falls”, one of the largest waterfalls in the world, and its economy is strongly supported by tourism.

The document states that the Angolan community living in the region is of the opinion that on this day tribute should be paid to all Angolans who contributed to the weapons being definitively silenced in the country.

The anniversary marks 22 years, since on April 4, 2002, military leaders of the Angolan Armed Forces (FAA) and the former UNITA forces (FALA) initialed the Luena Memorandum of Understanding, complementary to the Lusaka Agreements, putting an end to 27 years of conflict.
