Africa-Press – Angola. Angola presented the strategic vision of the Lobito Corridor as a platform for regional economic transformation, during the Vienna International Energy and Climate Forum (IVECF), which took place from the 9th to the 10th of this month, in Vienna, Austria.
According to a press release from the Embassy of Angola in Austria sent on Sunday, the vision was shared by the executive secretary of the Lobito Corridor Transit Transport Facilitation Agency (AFTTCL), Amadeu Leitão Nunes.
In his speech, as part of the round table on the theme “Beyond Borders: Regional Value Chains and Green Industrial Corridors”, the person in charge addressed the role of the corridor as a structuring axis for industrialization and economic integration between Angola, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Zambia.
Amadeu Leitão Nunes said that one of the main challenges involves governance and coordination between the countries involved, with a view to ensuring greater alignment between institutions and partners.
Among the priorities, he cited strengthening the role of the corridor Secretariat, the articulation between infrastructure development and industrialization, as well as improving transparency, with the use of integrated monitoring systems.
The official made it known that the Lobito Corridor also follows a sustainability-oriented approach, taking advantage of the potential of renewable energy and valuing its position in the global chain of critical minerals, such as copper and cobalt.
In this field, there are initiatives linked to decarbonized logistics, integration of clean energy and the creation of sustainable industrial clusters, with an expected impact on inclusive growth and the energy transition.
The Forum, which took place from the 9th to the 10th of this month, at the Hofburg Palace, brought together leaders, experts and representatives of international organizations, who analyzed joint responses to energy and climate challenges.
During the debates, participants addressed the need to strengthen international cooperation, accelerate the energy transition, mobilize resources and promote sustainable development policies, with special attention to the most vulnerable countries.
On the sidelines of the event, the AFTTCL executive secretary held a meeting with officials from the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), including the head of the Regional Division for Africa, Victor Djemba, and the head of the Sustainable Investment and Responsible Business Unit, Stefan Kratzsch.
The meeting made it possible to analyze ways to deepen cooperation, with a view to transforming the Lobito Corridor into an integrated economic corridor, capable of boosting industrial growth, generating jobs and increasing regional competitiveness.
Among the lines of action are the development of regional value chains, the creation of sustainable industrial zones and logistics centers, the harmonization of industrial policies and support for small and medium-sized companies in member countries.
The Angolan delegation also includes consultant José Sicato and officials from the Permanent Mission of Angola in Vienna.
The event was organized by UNIDO, in partnership with the Austrian Federal Ministry for European and International Affairs, the Austrian Development Agency and the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis.
