Africa-Press – Angola. Political parties have local authorities as a priority, as they provide, among others, the development and decentralization of administrative power.

The position was defended this Saturday, in the city of Ondjiva, by representatives of political parties in the province of Cunene.

The secretary of the Social Renewal Party in Cunene, Miguel Ndapewovano, said that local authorities aim to respond by bringing public services closer to citizens.

The politician highlighted that local authorities will bring benefits to the people, responding to the challenges of combating regional asymmetries and social inequalities.

The provincial secretary of the FNLA, Júlio Garcia, said that the institutionalization of local authorities is a long-awaited process, whose gains are not limited only to the Executive power, but also for the population.

The leader said that the FNLA party is organizing itself to participate in this process, which will reduce the pressure that the Executive is experiencing in resolving population problems, combating regional asymmetries and decentralizing political and economic power towards the development of the country.

Júlio Garcia highlighted that the delivery of the proposal on local authorities to the National Assembly, by the Executive, after consideration by the Council of Ministers, increases confidence in its implementation.

In turn, UNITA secretary, Torga Pangeiko, considered that the effective institutionalization of local authorities is a relevant measure for strengthening and consolidating the democratic process.

“Looking at the importance of the process for local governance and community development, we need consensus on certain points”, he highlighted.

On the 1st, the Executive submitted three law proposals on the municipal legislative package to the National Assembly.

These are the Organic Law on the Institutionalization of Local Authorities, the Organic Law on the Municipal Guard and the Law that approves the Remuneration Statute of the Holders of Bodies and Services of Local Authorities.
