Africa-Press – Angola. The first International Conference on Kizomba takes place from the 24th to the 26th of May, in Luanda, to promote dialogue between the various agents of this style of Angolan music and dance.
In an initiative by the Original Kizomba Association (AOK), the event aims to serve as a space for critical reflection on the expressive cultural practices of this artistic genre, namely music and dance.
According to a press release from the organization of the event, the aim is to bring together, in the same space, representatives from the entire “Kizomba” community, be they composers, singers, musicians, instrumentalists, disc jockeys, as well as dancers, in their most diverse forms. strands and generations.
The conference also aims to allow articulation between Kizomba lovers, their sociability and experiences, highlighting the importance of this heritage in social, economic and community life over the decades.
The note indicates that, so far, many isolated events have already been held, but that this conference aims to create a network of interlocutors capable of discussing the various dimensions of this cultural practice with strong heritage and tourism potential.
Four themes are planned for reflection, including “Kizomba as a performance: generational marks and different styles, from the ‘drag’ of the last century to the acrobatics of the 21st century”.
“The routes of Kizomba – from parties to international festivals, diasporas, identity preservation and construction of intercultural bridges” is the second theme proposed, while the third deals with “Semba and Kizomba – A permanent dialogue and interaction”.
“The role of DJs: musical influences, fusion of rhythms and influences of new technologies in composition processes” constitutes the fourth theme of reflections.
In recent years, the Angolan Government has been working to register Kizomba with UNESCO as Intangible Heritage of Humanity, after having done so with the City of Mbanza Kongo and the Sona, drawings and geometric figures in the sand, ancient art of the Lunda people -Cockwe.
