Africa-Press – Angola. The routes Luanda – Lisbon – Luanda, with 33,500 passengers, and Luanda – São Paulo – Luanda, with 72 thousand passengers, were among the busiest for Transportadora Aérea Angolana (TAAG), in the period from 1 January to 20 February.
Data obtained shows that, to Lisbon, the Angolan flag company carried out 196 flights, with an average occupancy rate of 61.8 percent. On the São Paulo route (Brazil), 73 flights were carried out with an average occupancy rate of 51.90 percent.
In 51 days, TAAG, just to Portugal (Lisbon) and Brazil (São Paulo) transported, in both directions, 105,500 passengers and carried out 269 flights. Overall, for both routes, the average occupancy rate is more than 56 percent.
The Angolan carrier has been very competitive in the segment, with an attractive baggage policy and prices, compared to the competition, which also operates in Angolan skies.
Based at the “Aeroporto Internacional 4 de Fevereiro”, its current Hub, the company recently announced that it is also operating the cargo segment at the António Agostinho Neto International Airport (AIAAN), located in Icolo and Bengo, in Luanda province.
Opened on November 10th, AIAAN is preparing to be the next TAAG Hub, as a flag operator, but the infrastructure is ready to also be a geostrategic platform for the continent and the region in particular.
At 4 de Fevereiro International Airport, “giants” such as Emirates, Ethiopian Airlines, South African Airways, TAP, Lufthansa and several others cross paths.
Increasing competition and the desire for better services and to be preferred by Angolans, and beyond, challenge TAAG in the permanent improvement of flight policies.
