Africa-Press – Angola. Among the new roads under construction, the highlight is the Kimbango/Via Expressa section, covering a length of 21 kilometers, where drainage works are already underway, which are expected to be completed after November.
According to the director of the National Institute of Roads of Angola (INEA) in Luanda, Rosária Kiala, in an interview with Rádio Nacional de Angola (RNA), the section that leaves Centrality of Zango 5 to the Estrada Nacional Deolinda Rodrigues, with a view to improving access to the new airport.
He clarified that the two roads are from scratch and include asphalt, sidewalks, public lighting, macro-drainage, pits, subgrade, subbase and bases.
He said that the work on one of the two viaducts being built for entry and exit to the new airport is progressing satisfactorily, and is expected to be completed before the date of inauguration of the airport infrastructure.
As for the sections under rehabilitation, he highlighted the ongoing works on Avenida Deolinda Rodrigues, which is benefiting from central dividers, repair of the drainage system and laying of new asphalt.
He also mentioned that the expansion of stops for public transport, the rehabilitation and installation of new pedestrian crossings are being carried out on this avenue, to ensure the safety of pedestrians.
Asked about the rehabilitation of the Vila de Viana/Zango 0 section, passing through the cemetery of this municipality, and the Ponte Partida/Suave/Bairro “Jacinto Tchipa” route, Rosária Kiala said that these works are under the responsibility of the Provincial Government of Luanda (GPL) .
In relation to pedestrians, the director of INEA assured that around eight new overpasses are planned to be placed on the perimeter between Via Expressa and Avenida Deolinda Rodrigues.
Furthermore, the source also pointed out that this project covers the rehabilitation of 20 pedestrian crossings in poor condition, in various parts of the Angolan capital, as well as the installation of new ones in places with greater crossing traffic, such as the neighborhood area Grafanil Bar, in Viana.
Rosária Kiala also highlighted the rehabilitation of the expressway, with emphasis on the Benfica (Cabo Lombo)/Ponte do 25 (Viana) section, where 16 kilometers are being carried out for service roads, cleaning and rehabilitation of the drainage system, whose works proceed satisfactorily.
Additionally, he also highlighted the maintenance and conservation works on the roads in the Patriota neighborhood, Pedro de Castro Van-Dúnem Loy and 21 de Janeiro avenues, as well as the Futungo/Cabo Lombo section, which are almost 90% complete.
In turn, the deputy director of INEA, José João, highlighted that the Vila de Catete/Maria Teresa section, on Estrada Nacional 230, which connects Luanda and Cuanza Norte, begins to be rehabilitated in less than a month, a period in which work on this route will be allocated.
According to the person responsible, the consignment of this work will be done in less than a month, explaining that so far the section has not yet been rehabilitated for financial reasons.
