Africa-Press – Angola. The experimental tests of the 26, 906 Megawatt (MW) Solar Energy Park, in the city of Luena (Moxico), are proceeding smoothly and the energy project should be handed over to the Provincial Government of Moxico next June.

According to information, during the visit of a parliamentary delegation from the 4th commission for State Administration, Local Government and Local Authorities, the solar equipment is meeting expectations and its physical execution is at 91 percent.

The project, run by the South African companies “Sun África”, as well as MCA Angola and Portugal, will benefit more than two million inhabitants of the city of Luena and peripheral neighborhoods, and is installed in an area of ​​52 hectares, supporting 42 560 solar panels, with a budget of 36 million and 973 thousand euros.

Currently, the city of Luena has a maximum installed capacity set at 31.5 MW, of which only 13 MW is supplied, coming from two thermal plants and the Tchihumbwe dam, in the province of Lunda Sul.

The parliamentarians, in addition to the main municipality of Moxico, worked in Camanongue, Léua and Luacano to also investigate the infrastructures of the Integrated Plan for Intervention in Municipalities (PIIM), the Integrated Program for Local Development and Combating Poverty (PIDLCP) and the Public Investment Program (PIP).
