Lunda-Sul Introduces Drones to Support Agricultural Production

Africa-Press – Angola. Agricultural production in the province of Lunda-Sul will count, in the current campaign that opened on Saturday, in the commune of Monaquimbundu, with the introduction of drones for spraying and pest control, to ensure that in four months, for example, five thousand tons of rice on a thousand hectares will be made available to the market.

In total, Lunda-Sul intends to engage a total of 54,540 families in agricultural production between 2024 and 2025, to produce over 507 thousand tons of food.

The 2024/2025 agricultural campaign has opened at Denghuang Farm, on the outskirts of the Monaquimbundo communal headquarters, in the province of Lunda-Sul. The projected harvest is over 507 thousand tons of various products, in a cultivation area of over 84,800 hectares. In the family domain alone, 54,544 agricultural holdings are available.

During a ceremony presided over by Governor Félix Neto, the director of the Agriculture Office, Nelson Senguitali, announced that, within the framework of structuring the sector to adapt it to the production chain, the current challenges also involve 287 cooperatives and 369 small producers.

The harvest forecast is around 32,800 tons of food, in an area of more than five thousand and 560 hectares.

The official said that the focus is on production to improve the supply of products to families’ tables. To this end, an agro-industrial unit has been planned, which should operate in Denghuang and which will be managed by Chinese specialists.

The idea is to combine the technical and technological knowledge of Huang Yunfen’s team, who has lived in Angola for over 21 years, seven of which have been linked to agriculture in the country, so that drones can spray infusions, intended to combat weeds and other pathogens, during the vegetative cycle of the seed.

The Chinese specialist has already worked in the provinces of the southern region, such as Bié and Huíla. Before heading east, he passed through Malanje.

In Lunda-Sul, Huang Yunfen believes that the climatic conditions will allow excellent production levels to be achieved over the next four years.

“The main causes of some failure in rice cultivation in Angola are the result of poor knowledge of climate behavior, varieties adaptable to soils and mismatches in relation to the correct time for sowing,” he explained.

The provincial government’s strategy regarding large-scale grain production involves a clear focus on rice, corn and beans, before highlighting the importance of creating conditions to begin the production of soybeans and wheat.
