Africa-Press – Angola. The Southern African Development Community (SADC) is holding, this Saturday, in Lusaka (Zambia), the extraordinary summit of the Organ Troika, aimed at analyzing the security situation, an opportunity to highlight the Liberation Day of this region.
The high-level meeting in Lusaka, in which the Angolan head of state participates as acting president of SADC, will address, among other issues, the security situation in the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and in the province from Cabo Delgado, in northern Mozambique.
The two regions have been experiencing armed conflicts led by subversive forces for some time, causing, in addition to destruction, an increase in the number of internally and externally displaced people, as well as deaths, which led the regional organization to highlight missions in these countries to support respective governments to restore peace, security and stability.
The meeting will also review the financial health of SADC missions and analyze updated information on the mobilization of resources to support the mission in the DRC (SAMIDRC) from International Cooperation Partners.
The extraordinary summit in Lusaka will be chaired by the head of state of Zambia, Hakainde Hichilema, in his capacity as acting president of the SADC Organ for Cooperation in the Areas of Politics, Defense and Security.
The troika duo of the Organ and SADC, DRC and Mozambique, as well as troop contributing countries for SAMIDRC and SAMIM, missions of the regional organization in these two Member States, participate in it. respectively.
The Organ Troika is the SADC institution responsible for promoting peace and security in the region. Currently, it is made up of Zambia, acting president of the Organ, Tanzania, as the next president, and Namibia, the outgoing president.
In turn, the Troika of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) is made up of Angola, as acting president of SADC, Zimbabwe, as the next president, and DRC, as outgoing president.
Contributing troops to SAMIM are Angola, Botswana, DRC, Lesotho, Malawi, Namibia, South Africa, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe, while Tanzania, South Africa and Malawi are the troop-contributing states to SAMIDRC.

Alongside this event, the region celebrates the “Liberation Day of Southern Africa”, originating from the historic victory of the Battle of Cuito Cuanavale, by Angolan government forces over the South African Army of the apartheid regime, whose benefits covered a considerable part of the region.
Among other gains, the national heroic feat with regional repercussion, which is now in its sixth year of celebration, contributed, to a large extent, to the independence of Namibia, the end of the racial segregation regime in South Africa and the release of Nelson Mandela , after 27 years in prison.
In recognition, SADC unanimously adopted March 23 as “Southern Africa Liberation Day” in 2018.
