Africa-Press – Angola. Works of the Integrated Plan for Intervention in Municipalities change, for the better, the image of the capital of the province with the same name, whose authorities are committed to improving the population’s quality of life and increasing basic services.
The city of Malanje completed, yesterday, the 13th of February, 90 years of existence. Throughout its existence, the city of Malanje, also known as the capital of the imposing Palanca Negra Gigante, has registered remarkable progress in many areas, despite not being implemented in others.
On the occasion of the 90th anniversary, some Malanjinos asked, through Jornal de Angola, that more actions be carried out, such as the improvement of access roads to the different neighbourhoods, supply of drinking water and public lighting.
One of these residents is Domingos António, who has lived in Malanje for many years. He considers that the actions around the Integrated Plan of Intervention in the Municipalities have some visibility with the construction of new infrastructures that are giving some dignity to the city of Malanje.
It is, however, of the opinion that the Government directs more actions to improve access roads to allow the free movement of people and goods, since many roads are in an advanced state of degradation.
Evolution of the PIIM
The actions of the Integrated Plan for Intervention in Municipalities (PIIM) in the municipality of Malanje evolved from 23 to 37 actions, in different areas, with greater emphasis on the Education and Construction sector, with the laying of asphalt on the main streets of the City.
In an interview with Jornal de Angola, the municipal administrator, João de Assunção, said that the projects are helping to give another image to the city of Malanje and improve the living conditions of the citizens.
The asphalting process, which includes streets such as “Brinca” and “Dio”, is well advanced. The same started at the Rainha Jinga Mbandi roundabout, located along road 230 and also includes other streets in the city of Malanje, to ensure the free movement of people and goods. “The idea of the recycling project that includes several arteries in the city of Malanje is to make a kind of cover-up”, he said.
João de Assunção also said that, as part of the rebalancing, a new asphalting project will be introduced for the road that gives access to the Xawande market, which also includes road signs, public lighting and the sewage system.
He also mentioned the project for the construction and rehabilitation of schools, with emphasis on “Hoji-ya-Henda”, “87”, located in the Cangambo district, and 108, in Maxinde. The construction of a new school with seven classrooms is also planned in the same neighbourhood, which is currently being completed, with opening in May.
The official also mentioned that a project is underway that includes the rehabilitation, expansion and equipping of six primary schools, including the “Pioneiro Zeca” school, which has already been inaugurated, the one in Bairro da Kizanga, whose physical execution is in the order of 70 percent, of Palmeiras, in the neighborhood of Canâmbua, in addition to “Kilamba Kiaxi”, “Comandante Kuenha” and the school of “Cabuabuata”.
The municipal administrator of Malanje said, on the other hand, that, within the scope of the PIIM, the rehabilitation of the “Pioneiro Zeca” Children’s Park is underway, which is already 66 per physical execution center and will include, in addition to the children’s library, , the mini sports court and spaces for recreational activities, as well as an area for selling tickets.
The construction of two water systems, laundries and sanitary facilities, in the Vila Matilde neighborhood and in the rural village of Sunze, the earthworks of the road that connects the city of Malanje to the commune of Ngola Luiji, as well as the basic sanitation project for the city of Malanje, with the hiring of workers and the acquisition of kits for urban cleaning, which includes trucks, tractors and machines for the collection of solid waste, to avoid large sources of garbage, a vehicle for the work of urban inspection, are also included in the actions of the PIIM.
The official assured that efforts are being made so that, by next June of this year, all the works mentioned can be inaugurated, with emphasis on three schools, namely the Kilamba Kiaxi, Palmeiras and Cabuabuata schools.
João de Assunção said that of the PIIM projects, the Education sector leads the list of actions to be carried out in the municipality of Malanje, with the construction of ten schools and the rehabilitation and equipping of the Esquadrão Bomboco school, Amílcar Cabral, of the second cycle of the Catepa and in the process of contracting two more buildings, one also in Catepa and the other to support people with special needs.
As part of the PIIM, the municipality of Malanje will have a total of 14 primary and secondary schools.
He added that projects were also approved for the construction of a sidewalk that will be called “Portuguese”, between the Airport and the Girassol pumps. The sidewalk will include open-air gyms, spaces for ornamental plants, as well as the requalification of the Vila Matilde roundabout and the painting of the buildings, aiming to give another image to the city of Malanje.
The placement of new traffic lights, vertical and horizontal signage, construction of a bridge over the Cole River, in the Ngola Luiji Commune, earthworks of the roads that connect the Dom Kixote school, in the Catepa/Quissole district, which connects the Xawande market to the Camibafo and the Cerâmica to Camibafo area are also among the projects to be carried out in the near future. The respective public tenders have already been launched and the companies that will implement them are being identified.
The administrator said that, in addition to the municipal projects, Malanje benefited from several central actions, such as the expansion of the electricity project in the different districts of the city of Malanje, started in the districts Pimpão I and II, but which foresees more than 4 thousand household connections and automatic public lighting.
The construction of 500 social houses in the Carreira de Tiro neighborhood and the construction of integrated infrastructure in the Canâmbua neighborhood is also planned, which includes the paving of the road, public lighting and the sewage network.
As for the integrated infrastructure, João de Assunção said that, in a first phase, the asphalting works on Rua do Issenguele, in the Canâmbua neighbourhood, had already been completed. He also highlighted the recent inauguration of the “Rei Ngola Kiluanje” Media Library.
Reinforcement of water distribution
The municipal administrator of Malanje said that another new water collection and distribution system is being built from the Luije River. for the period between March and May.
According to the official, the construction of the infrastructure will reinforce the current “Guinea Water Collection System” and allow new household connections to be made in the municipality of Malanje.
During 2021, under the Integrated Program for Local Development and Fight against Hunger and Poverty, two health centers were rehabilitated, expanded and equipped, in the districts of Canâmbua and Cangambo, as well as the construction of a four-room school. in the rural village of the seven sobas, in the municipality of Malanje.
The rehabilitation of the community center for agricultural development in the municipality of Cambaxe, the construction of two small drinking water systems in the Camacondeca neighborhood, which benefited more than two thousand families in the same district, and another system being completed, in the Carreira de Tiro, are actions that deserved the observation of the administrator João de Assunção.
Also in that period, support was also given to several families of ex-soldiers and vulnerable citizens, with the distribution of three-wheel motorcycles to develop taxi activities within the communities and support for agricultural production, within the scope of the family aquaculture project.
Also within the scope of the Program to Combat Poverty, it is foreseen the continuity of support to families with the production of aquaculture, horticulture and training actions for women for their technical training to support their respective families.
The acquisition and delivery of kits for the promotion of female self-employment, rehabilitation and equipping of the Community Center for Agrarian Development, in the commune of Ngola Luije, the rural market in the municipality of Malanje, to accommodate the sellers who sell their products in places inappropriate, as well as the guarantee of better security conditions and the construction and equipping of community classrooms, are on the list of perspectives of the municipal administration of Malanje.
The rehabilitation of the mother and child centre, the maintenance and equipping of the Maxinde health center to guarantee better medical care for the population, the reinforcement of the supply of school meals, the construction of two small water systems for five thousand people, the promotion of more activities activities, mainly in rural areas, with the delivery of sports equipment and the training of sports agents, are other actions to be carried out.
João de Assunção said that the implementation of the projects will have a positive impact on the lives of the residents of the municipality of Malanje. He asked, in fact, for the joint efforts of all Malanji people, in the sense of joining efforts to solve the problems that affect the city of Malanje.
