Malanje will have a modern General Hospital

Africa-Press – Angola. The province of Malanje will, in the near future, have a new, modern General Hospital from scratch, because the current one is in a state of degradation, the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, announced this Thursday.

“The commitment remains. We are going to build a new modern hospital in Malanje, like other provinces”, said João Lourenço, in Malanje, at the end of the meeting with the provincial government.

The head of state added that, during the meeting, the hypothesis of rehabilitating the current Malanje General Hospital was raised, “but it is in such a state of degradation that it is difficult to carry out a deep intervention with patients inside”.

To overcome the situation, according to the President of the Republic, it was decided to build an annex area, which will include the emergency bank, operating blocks, sterilization and hospital oxygen production units.

“This can start to be done now, while in a period of two to three years we will build the new Malanje General Hospital, the first stone of which has already been laid”, he added.

Likewise, President João Lourenço informed that, once the new General Hospital is completed, a thorough renovation will be carried out to the current general hospital “and in this way, the province will end up with two reference hospital units”.

On the other hand, he made it known that the Executive will also invest in the construction of primary and secondary hospital units in the remaining municipalities of the province.

Still regarding the meeting with government officials, he added that several problems were raised, most of which he was aware of, and that they were being resolved.

In this regard, he announced the completion of the desilting work on the Malanje River, which is about 70 percent complete.

Rehabilitation of railways and roads

The President of the Republic announced, on the occasion, the rehabilitation of the section of the Luanda Railway, which connects the province of Malanje.

He recalled that it is on this section where many accidents and train derailments have occurred, which led to the cancellation of passenger trains to safeguard human life.

“To get to Malanje or leave this city, we need entrances and the Catete/Maria Teresa to Ndalatando section is not in good condition”, he said.

He recalled that the Minister of Construction recently announced the rehabilitation of the section “and today we pressure him to make a commitment not to stop in Maria Teresa, but to reach Ndalatando, the provincial capital.
