Africa-Press – Angola. Angolan diplomat Maquento Sebastião Lopes on Monday presented his credentials to Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Saeed Hussein Khalil El-Sisi, for accreditation as Angola’s ambassador to the North African country.

On the occasion, the Egyptian President expressed his country’s pride due to the privileged bilateral relations with Angola, reaffirming his government’s commitment to strengthening cooperation between the two countries in various fields.

A press release from the Angolan Embassy in Egypt, Abdel Fattah El-Sisi also expressed his willingness to continue providing support and assistance within the framework of existing relations of friendship and solidarity.

The new Angolan ambassador, who was appointed to the post on January 7 of this year, will have resident status.

He handed over the letter of credence to Egyptian Deputy Foreign Affairs minister, Haitham Salah on April 12 during a ceremony marked by an assessment of the state of prospects for bilateral cooperation between the two countries.

Diplomatic relations between Angola and Egypt were made official on March 26, 1987, with the signing in Luanda of the General Agreement on Economic, Scientific, and Technical Cooperation, an instrument that has served as the basis for the development of multiple partnership initiatives.

Currently, the two states maintain cooperation agreements in the sectors of defence, pharmaceutical industry, tourism, energy and water, telecommunications, public works, oil and gas, agriculture and fisheries, youth and sports, among others.

The diplomat was appointed as part of the Angolan State’s commitment aiming to strengthen political and diplomatic relations with several countries. He is also Angola’s ambassador to Lebanon, Jordan and Palestine.

Ambassador Maquento Lopes is the eighth Angolan ambassador accredited to Egypt, succeeding Nelson Cosme, who held the post from 2019 to 2025.

It is worth highlighting that António Fernandes (2011–2019), Hendrick Vaal Neto (2006–2011), Hermínio Escórcio (1994–2005), Daniel Chipenda (1989–1992), Sebastião de Almeida (1983–1985) and Joaquim Lemos (1976–1982), constitute the list of former Angolan ambassadors to that Arab country.
