Africa-Press – Angola. The Action Plan of the National Sea Strategy, which is being implemented by the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, maintains as a priority the conclusion of the Angolan Marine Space Planning Law, focusing on the generation of wealth and employment for the population.
According to the Secretary of State for Fisheries, Esperança da Costa, while speaking yesterday in Luanda at the opening seminar for the consultation phase of the Angolan Marine Space Management Law (OEMA), the country is actively following and participating active in the great discussions about the oceans.
“The maximization of resources from the sea for the well-being of citizens, the generation of employment, national wealth with the potential to promote blue development through scientific knowledge are the main guidelines of the Action Plan of the National Strategy for the Sea, with in view of the conclusion of the Law for the Management of the Marine Space of Angola”, he said.
Another aspect highlighted by the Secretary of State for Fisheries, Esperança da Costa, has to do with the importance of the issue of oceans in the agenda of nations, whose dynamics derive from the growing knowledge about the contribution of economic activities related to the sea, which also includes the enormous potential for creating wealth and employment, without forgetting the impacts inherent to climate change, acidification of the seas, among other factors. All of these are the basis for raising awareness of the need for prophylactic measures in the face of their vulnerability.
Esperança da Costa made it known that Angola, due to the importance of the maritime dimension that it has in terms of the Atlantic Ocean, in the strategic, economic and social context, has accompanied and actively participated in the great themes on the oceans. This participation takes place both at a regional level and in a global context, from the perspective of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the 2030 Development Agenda and the New Blue Economy.
Among the regional programs followed by Angola, according to the official, the emphasis is on “Agenda 2063, the African Maritime Strategy, the African Decade for the Seas and Oceans 2015-2025”, which she considers as “an opportunity to enhance of the national maritime space and its resources within a framework of sustainability and protection of marine biodiversity”.
“It is within this framework that the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, created, through Order 147/19 of 12 August, the Multisectoral Commission for Maritime Affairs, in charge of drawing up the National Strategy for the Sea, the respective action plan in sense of proceeding with the Planning of the Angolan Marine Space”, he recalled.
He also mentioned the elaboration of the action plan that had the contribution of the municipal administrations of all the coastal provinces, as well as international consultants within the scope of the Benguela Cold Current Convention, which includes, in addition to Angola, Namibia and South Africa. South.
At the end of the event, several suggestions were made by audience members that were duly noted to help improve the diploma.
Held in the auditorium of the National School of Public Policies (ENAPP), in Luanda, under the guidance of the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, the opening seminar of the consultation phase of the Marine Space Management Law of Angola was attended by representatives of the 14 ministerial departments members of the multisectoral commission, with emphasis on the Secretaries of State for the Interior, Natural Resources, Environment and Agriculture.
