Africa-Press – Angola. The Petro de Luanda cyclist, Mário de Carvalho, won(Tuesday), the fourth stage of the Volta Angola “Pepino’2023”, with a time of 4 hours 53 minutes and 31 seconds, in a 180 kilometer race , which departed from the municipality of Porto Amboim, in Cuanza Sul, and ended in Kissama, Luanda province.

In second place, with a difference of tenths, was Zeferino Epalanga, from Amadores Ciclo Turismo, with 4:53’31, followed, in third, by Fábio Andrade, from Jair Transporte, with 4:53’31, and in fourth position by Dário António, with 4:53’31 (ACT).

Although Dário António was in fourth place, he will be wearing the yellow jersey, as he is the athlete who scored the most points, with Bruno Araújo wearing the white polka dot jersey.

On this fourth day of the race, of the eight planned, the athletes returned to yet another challenge, which took place over a course with very few mishaps.

The cyclists paraded and resistance was measured, as it was a route without large mountains and mostly straight and without many curves.

The biggest challenge they had to face was the strong winds that were felt in that section, Porto Amboim, in front of the local administration and ended in front of Kissama Park.

From the starting gun in Proto Amboim, the peloton began to divide, at 80 km, with the formation of four athletes, with Dário António leading, Mário de Carvalho, Zeferino Epalanga and Fábio André.

These were decided after so much team play, Mário de Carvalho relegated his direct opponents to fourth place and came out on top of the stage, with a difference of tenths at the finish line.

On the route of that municipality in the Province of Cuanza Sul, pedal men encounter difficulties on almost 100 meters of unpaved road, in the vicinity of the Longa River, as the road is undergoing improvement work.

Road number one hundred, was so far the best route of the four races carried out, Prologue of five Kms, which started in Casseque and ended in Nganguela, communes of Huambo, in which the negative was a narrow road and a lot of vehicle movement.

In the 150 km stage, which left the municipality of Cubal, to the center of Benguela, the road was very potholed in almost every section.

In the third, 170 km, it started from Bairro da Kaponte, in the municipality of Lobito and ended in the commune of Kicombo, in the municipality of Sumbe, province of Cuanza Sul, a route with very steep climbs and curves and counter curves.

On Wednesday, the race will take its first break, in the province of Zaire. In this same province, two races will take place, a 20 km time trial, in the city of Soyo, on Thursday, and then on Friday there will be a 145 km long distance race, from Soyo to Nzeto.
