Africa-Press – Angola. The athlete from the National MMA Team, Mayra Lemos, won the gold medal in the under-61 kg category on Tuesday at the African Championships held at the Kilamba Arena. The 16-year-old athlete defeated her Cameroonian opponent Yelene Nkrassan in the grand final, who was unable to counter the attacks of the Angolan who topped the podium with the gold medal.

In statements, the athlete said she was satisfied with the result achieved. “I am happy, because I managed to defend and surpass my title as two-time African champion. The competition was not easy, but I managed to impose my game, everything I have been learning from the tough and rigorous preparation we had. I did not give my opponent the chance to show her game and she ran out of arguments”, she says.

Mayra Lemos, who also practices Jiu Jitsu at the Gracie Barra Club, promises to work to achieve better results in the upcoming international events, with the National Team. “In the near future, you can expect a better Mayra, because I tend to improve every day. This African Championship is clearly the best. We will take the title because my teammates are good and will certainly do their best”, she concluded.

This is the athlete’s second participation in the African Championship. Her first participation was in the African Championship in Namibia in 2024, where she also won the gold medal. As for national competitions, Mayra also holds the title of champion of the Angola Cup.
