Africa-Press – Angola. The Secretary of State for Human Rights and Citizenship, Ana Celeste Januário, recommended the media to contribute to the promotion of human rights in the country, through investigation, denouncement or dissemination of cases related to the protection and dignity of people.
Speaking to the press on the sidelines of the first conference of local human rights committees, held this Friday in Luanda, the secretariat also involved civil society, including religious associations, in the task of promoting human rights.
At country level, the official pointed out cases of gender violence and violence against children as the main violations of human rights, in terms of economic, social and cultural rights.
About the local human rights committees, he said that they are implemented in the country’s 18 provinces and act as promoters of the National Action Strategy for Human Rights.
The conference addressed topics such as “the importance of the National Human Rights Strategy” and was attended by municipal administrators, national police officers, academics, among other entities.
