Africa-Press – Angola. Concern over the composition of the commission of specialists from Region V marked Monday, in Luanda, the meeting between the Minister of Youth and Sports, Palmira Barbosa, and the executive director of this zone, Stanley Mutoya, held at Galerias of Sports.
According to the Angolan official, who was speaking to the press at the end of the meeting, the concern is due to the fact that it is an important area where the permanent secretaries of the member countries are part, a figure that Angola still does not occupy in the zone.
For him, the non-inclusion in this post is the reason for several barriers on national participation in that region and as a result of that, the proposal of the person in charge was received, for framing Angola in the framework of the national directors of the area.
At the meeting, the performance work for the podium, carried out with the national federations and the Angolan Olympic Committee (COA), was also presented, based on the cataloging of athletes from various sports, who are in a high-performance centre.
Palmira Barbosa mentioned that they had received several fundamental opinions, for the internal work, to be developed in the coming days.
In turn, the CEO of Region V, Stanley Mutoya, said that it is a regular meeting that the management of the zone holds with member countries whenever new sports officials are appointed, as a way of bringing them up to date with the regulations, history and various responsibilities.
In addition to the full operation of the zone, the Zimbabwean referred to having appreciated the models and criteria for participation in sports events in the region, including the roles of ministers.
In the 2022 edition, in Lilongwe (Malawi), Angola ranked second in the Region V Games, with 45 medals, including 18 gold, 14 silver and 13 bronze.
