Africa-Press – Angola. The Minister of State for Social Area, Dalva Ringote, defended this Friday, in Luanda, the need for greater engagement by member states of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) in the implementation of gender equality policies and promotion of women.
The minister spoke at the opening of the meeting of ministers responsible for gender issues and the promotion of women in SADC, which addresses, among other topics, progress in the implementation of programs on gender and the economic empowerment of women.
The minister challenged each country in the community to renew its actions, on a legal, institutional, economic and social level, taking into account the United Nations’ 2030 sustainable development objectives.
According to the person responsible, due to social transformations, everyone is challenged to reflect and work to change the worrying situation that women face in the region, given the problem of moral, physical, psychological, emotional, economic and sexual violence, as well as drug trafficking. human beings, with an incidence on girls and children.
This reality, he said, continues to affect the development of African societies, particularly in the region, thus making the role of each State, public and private institutions, families and international partners in the defense of security, legal guarantee and social well-being.
In this context, the Minister of State highlighted the approval of the “Revised Resource Kit for the Integration of SADC Gender Perspectives”, in the Democratic Republic of Congo, in 2023, aimed at supporting the actions and strengthening the capacities of member states in matters of effective gender integration, regional and national policies and programs.
For this reason, said Dalva Ringote, the Republic of Angola, as acting president of the Southern African Development Community (SADC), urges member states to show efforts in mobilizing resources, to implement the actions foreseen in the agenda of the gender and strengthening national mechanisms, mobilizing civil society and other social partners.
Situation in Angola
Internally, the Minister of State reported that the country has an institutional legal framework consistent with gender equality commitments, with a gender-sensitive budget having been approved, which helps to promote a sense of justice and reinforce the government’s responsibility in improve alignment with sustainable development objectives.
These actions, he highlighted, result from the approval, in the country, of several diplomas, including the Law against Domestic Violence, accompanied by the regulation and executive plan, the new Penal Code, the Law that approves the Family Code, the National Implementation Plan of United Nations Resolution 1325 on women, peace and security.
The meeting, which takes place virtually, also addresses issues related to the implementation of the SADC Protocol on Gender and Development, peace and security agenda, women in politics and decision-making positions and progress in efforts to address violence gender-based (GBV).
The work is guided by the minister of Social Action, Family and Promotion of Women and president of the SADC Council of Ministers responsible for Gender and Women’s Affairs, Ana Paula do Sacramento Neto.
