Africa-Press – Angola. The Minister of Telecommunications, Information Technology, and Media, Mario Oliveira, highlighted on Friday the importance of the Broadband Network Program as an innovative initiative that will help strengthen telecommunications infrastructure in Angola.
Speaking at the Extended Board of Directors meeting of the Angolan Public Telecommunications Company (Angola Telecom) in Luanda, the minister stressed that the program, which is one of the company’s main challenges, will boost the sector, given its differentiating component.
He pointed to Angola Telecom’s connection to another submarine cable as one of the institution’s many goals, which will represent added value for the country and allow the company to occupy its rightful place in its segment at the national level.
Mario Oliveira acknowledged the fundamental role that the Angolan Public Telecommunications Company plays in the sector, noting the improvements it has made in recent times, especially in the organizational domain.
Angola Telecom CEO, Adilson dos Santos, recalled that the Broadband Network program, currently 30% complete, will recover fiber optic routes and install new ones.
The program, which is expected to be completed in the first half of 2026, also provides for access networks that will reach wireless and wired end users, thus contributing to the achievement of some of the objectives set out in the National Development Plan (PDN).
The meeting brought together technicians from the country’s 21 provinces and aimed to take stock of activities in 2024 and look ahead to actions for this year.
