The Minister of Transport, Ricardo D’Abreu, considered this Tuesday that the Multipurpose Terminal at the Port of Luanda (concessioned to the company DP World), should contribute to boosting the national economy, taking advantage of Angola’s privileged position in the Southern region of the continent.

According to the government official, who was speaking at the ceremony launching the first stone of the terminal’s requalification works, he stressed that, in addition to the national market operators, the region and Africa will benefit from the operations of the “giant” DP World in the operation of this important space.

“DP World is a trustworthy partner with recognized technical and financial capacity, so that the Port of Luanda is increasingly respected by partners, customers and peers”, asserted the minister.

He pointed out that, after DP WORLD won the international competition for the management of the Multipurpose Terminal at the Port of Luanda, it spared no effort to transform it into one of the most efficient in the country.

To this end, Ricardo D ́Abreu understands that these actions resulted in satisfactory numbers, where cargo enters and leaves more quickly, products reach their final destination in a timely manner and are adjusted to the needs of companies, as well as consumers.

The event was attended by the Executive President (CEO) of DP WORLD for Sub-Saharan Africa, Mohamed Akoojee, who reiterated the group’s interest and commitment to Angola in the Multipurpose Terminal management operation.

He considered Angola as a promising, reliable market capable of leveraging new investments.

The civil construction works, which began tuesday, will last 18 months and include the construction of a two-story building for administration and operations, two access branches (loading and unloading), facilities for customs services, the Tax Police and a Ultra-modern X-ray.

In addition to requalifying the operating space and cargo accommodation, with a view to expanding the current capacity from 430 to 700 thousand containerized units, at the end of the works, the installation of “scanner” equipment and other technical and technological means will be used. modern.

The requalification of the 22 hectares of the Multipurpose Terminal (TMU) will also bring a fuel supply area with greater capacity, a health clinic, three car parks and 588 refrigeration outlets.

The Port of Luanda Multipurpose Terminal, attached to the Port of Luanda, processes an average of 13 million tons (loading and unloading), including 20-foot containerized units (TEU), general cargo/industrial equipment and motor vehicles.

In 2020, Dubai Ports (DP) World Limited won the public tender to manage the Multipurpose Terminal at the Port of Luanda for 20 years, with obligations to pay more than one billion dollars during the exploration period.

This multinational operates simultaneously general cargo and containers, with a handling capacity of 2.6 million tons per year.

DP World is a multinational logistics company based in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, specializing in cargo logistics, port terminal operations, maritime services and free trade zones, with 150 operations worldwide.
