Africa-Press – Angola. The Minister of State and Head of the Military House of the President of the Republic, Francisco Furtado, said in Luanda that in a period of 3 years the country has made important investments in the field of defense and security.

The official, who was speaking, on Wednesday, at the closing of the meeting of the military leaders of the Angolan Armed Forces (FAA) that took place from the 14th to the 15th in the capital, said that the investments resulted in the acquisition of modern means for the National Air Force and the Angolan Navy.

The objective, according to Francisco Furtado, is to reinforce the intervention capacity of the two branches of the FAA, to guarantee national security and stability.

“They also aim at strengthening partnerships in shared transnational challenges and in the interest of promoting peace and security in the spaces where the Republic of Angola is inserted”, he explained.

He underlined the fact that the investments were made at a difficult time in the country’s economic life, with few resources, resulting from the drop in the price of oil on the international market.

“The selfless, loyal and spirited manner and dedication to the country’s cause demonstrated by the FAA’s staff, in the face of economic life, has to do with how the military are prepared”, he expressed.

For Francisco Furtado, the loyalty of the staff demonstrates, likewise, the level of discipline, patriotic education, instruction and education in how they must deal with adverse situations, not only in the operational environment, but also with the adversities of the economic and social life of the country.

In his view, the Armed Forces are, above all, an institution of noble virtues that require resilience at all times.

He said that the Executive led by the President of the Republic and Commander-in-Chief, João Lourenço, will continue to pay the necessary attention to the FAA in all aspects and dimensions, for the realization and materialization of programs aimed at its modernization and development.

Objectives of the meeting

The meeting made it possible to assess the degree of execution of the tasks defined in the 2022/2023 calendar plan, to diagnose the general situation of the Armed Forces in operational terms and their capabilities and possibilities in maintaining national defense, within the framework of the Constitution of the Republic.

Its aim was to take stock of the restructuring, resizing and re-equipment process, as well as the various geopolitical scenarios taking shape in the African sub-region and in the world in general, with particular emphasis on the conflict in the East of the Democratic Republic of Congo.
