The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Téte António, considered Angola’s position regarding the peaceful resolution of international conflicts to be very clear, referenced this Monday in the message on the State of the Nation, which marked the opening of the parliamentary year 2023- 2024 of the Fifth Legislature of the National Assembly.
In his speech, at the solemn session of the new parliamentary year, the President of the Republic recalled that Angola defends a peaceful solution to international conflicts within the framework of the United Nations Charter and International Law.
João Lourenço referred, on the occasion, to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, having defended the implementation, without further hesitation, of the UN Security Council resolutions, for the creation of the true State of Palestine.
Speaking to the press, the head of Angolan diplomacy highlighted that the President of the Republic’s speech lived up to expectations, as it addressed issues of national and international life, having highlighted the speech of the Head of State in the chapter on pacification.
Minister Téte António stated that Angola will continue to defend the peaceful path to lasting peace both on the continent and internationally.
“We will continue our diplomacy in the sense that, wherever we are called to intervene, we defend the peaceful resolution of conflicts”, he highlighted, remembering that the President of the Republic was distinguished, last year, as a champion for peace and reconciliation in Africa, by the African Union (AU).
As a country that has gone through armed conflict, he said, Angola cannot be indifferent to others facing such a situation.
Regarding the reform that is required in the UN Security Council, the head of Angolan diplomacy said that the country defends the principle of consensus of the common African position, regarding the need for the continent to have two permanent members, with the right to veto, and five non-permanent.
According to Téte António, this is a reiterated position, since the Security Council is no longer adapted to the current circumstances.
According to the head of Angolan diplomacy, Africa represents a third of the members of the UN General Assembly and already deserves to have permanent representation on the Security Council of this global organization.
In his message on the state of the nation, the President of the Republic assured that Angola’s foreign policy remains active, focusing mainly on the areas of economic diplomacy, the search for solutions to conflicts in Africa, multilateralism, consular assistance and protection for our communities in the diaspora, as well as the continuous training of staff.
The same point of view was defended by the Ministers of Economy and Planning, Mário Caetano João, and Transport, Ricardo d’Abreu, who were optimistic about better days ahead in their respective areas.
Regarding the need to increase national production, advanced by the Head of State in his message, Mário Caetano João highlighted the areas of plant and animal production, including fishing, as a priority, as he concludes that they are the ones that have given decisive indicators of economic growth in the market. national.
He defended greater work, highlighting, on the other, the impact of the process of reconversion from the informal to the formal economy (PREI) and coordination with the Social Monetary Transfer Program (Kwenda).
“So, it’s time to roll up your sleeves and keep working”, he asserted, considering the message to be very profound and in line with what was expected.
