Africa-Press – Angola. The Minister of the Interior, Eugénio Laborinho, considered, this Sunday, the date of the beginning of the Armed Struggle for National Liberation (4 February) as memorable for Angolans.

Speaking to the press, at the end of the provincial act alluding to the 4th of February, the governor highlighted the contribution and role played by the former fighters and veterans of the Fatherland in the achievement of national independence, on the 11th of November 1975, an example to be followed by the new generations.

The minister praised, on the other hand, the achievement of peace and national reconciliation, stressing that it should remain in the memory of Angolans as an act of unforgettable bravery and heroism.

On the occasion, the governor of Luanda, Manuel Homem, said that the celebration of the 4th of February should serve to praise the precursors of this struggle, who shed their blood so that Angola could follow the path of independence.

For the governor, the anniversary serves to exalt the sacrifice and blood shed by Angolans for their emancipation, resistance and fight for freedom.

According to Manuel Homem, the sacrifice of the Angolans who perished in favor of this cause must be remembered, so that new generations realize that peace, stability and development must be major premises.

“The 4th of February is a milestone in the history of Angola. Each of us must continue to preserve and ensure that our country continues on the path of development,” she highlighted.

In turn, the Minister of Telecommunications, Information Technologies and Social Communication, Mário de Oliveira, highlighted that the date is a moment of reflection on what has been done over the 50 years and what is intended for the next 50 years.

In Luanda, the event was marked by the raising of the Monument Flag, at the National Museum of Military History, and the laying of a wreath at the Monument of the Unknown Soldier, in the city’s downtown, both by the Minister of the Interior Eugénio Laborinho.

Members of the Angolan Armed Forces, the Ministry of the Interior and other guests participated in the ceremony.

Angola celebrates Sunday, February 4th, 63 years since the beginning of the Armed Struggle for National Liberation, under the motto “Preserving the values ​​of the Fatherland, let us honor our heroes”.

The date remains engraved in the history of Angola as it marks the milestone of the armed struggle that culminated, 14 years later, with the proclamation of National Independence, on November 11, 1975, putting an end to the process of Portuguese occupation and colonization that began in the 15th century.

It was in the early hours of February 4, 1961 that around 200 Angolan nationalists, armed with machetes and other sharp weapons, launched a series of attacks on several prisons to free political prisoners from the Portuguese colonial regime.
