The Minister of the Interior, Eugénio Laborinho, appealed this Monday in Luanda to the population to redouble their vigilance and collaborate more with the National Police, during the festive season, with a view to preventing various crimes, which at this stage of the year tends to increase.
The minister made these pronouncements at the opening of Minint’s Extended Consultative Council, which ends today and is analyzing projects to be developed next year.
Eugénio Laborinho understands that the population should go to police stations to denounce all acts that violate public order and tranquility.
He stressed that it is common, in this period of the year, to register an increase in the road traffic of people and goods, the carrying out of various religious, recreational and music-cultural activities, which tend to result in an increase in the number of road accidents and criminal incidents. .
He stated that the search for easy profit, excessive consumption of alcoholic beverages, speeding and drunk driving are aspects that require greater inspection and intervention by the MNINT bodies.
“In order to guarantee a peaceful festive season, we have the support of all citizens, churches, traditional authorities, to raise awareness of the population in order to adopt exemplary behavior and contribute to healthy coexistence”, he underlined.
He recalled that the mission of guaranteeing public safety is complex and requires permanent dynamics from everyone, fundamentally, in the current context, with an increase in cyber crimes, the result of new technologies in which social networks have had a privileged space for the commission of crimes , such as scams, financial fraud, defamation and injury, including public entities, in addition to encouraging encounters that culminate in kidnapping, sexual relations, homicides, robberies, and other illegalities.
Bylaws adjustment
The Minister of the Interior considers the moment opportune to adjust the Organic Statute of the institution to the current political, social, legal and constitutional context, taking into account the recent revision of the Constitution of the country.
He also made it known that the Extended Consultative Council aims to address and define strategies, guiding policies for the organization and functioning of this ministerial department.
Members, mainly provincial commanders, directors of central bodies, will spend two days analyzing the importance of documents that could improve the response levels of Minint bodies, in the context of preventing and combating crime, investigation, procedural instruction, migratory flows, prevention against fires, disasters and rural calamities, as well as the improvement of the penitentiary system.
Among the issues under discussion is the Organic Statute of Minint, which must be adjusted to the current political, social, legal and constitutional context, taking into account the recent revision of the Constitution of the Republic of Angola.
Eugénio Laborinho explained that the members will also appreciate the Draft Code of Conduct for National Police Officers, Draft Amendments to the Regulations of the National Civil Protection Council and its National Commission, the Proposal for a Law on Bathing Safety, the Draft Regulations Canteens in Penitentiary Institutions, the Draft Regulation of the Council for National Coordination of Private Security Activity, among other topics.
There will also be an assessment of the activities carried out this year and a perspective for 2023 with a view to responding to current and future challenges.
