Africa-Press – Angola. The Angolan authorities remain committed to improving and humanizing health services for the well-being of the population, said Minister Sílvia Lutucuta this Saturday in Luanda.
The minister, who was speaking to the press at the end of a visit by the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, to Hospital do Prenda to see how it was working and the works in progress, praised the work and commitment of many professionals.
Despite this aspect, according to the minister, there are also many who do not pay due attention to patients.
Hence, he added, a series of actions have been developed by the ministry and the different health units, because we want health professionals to be part of a large life-saving family and not the other way around.
For minister Sílvia Lutucuta, medical assistance is an act of love and compassion and great attention must be paid to users, who are often already in a highly vulnerable situation when they go to hospitals.
Among the actions in this area, he mentioned the fact that the ministry continues to invest in training, the creation of the user’s office, the production of a circular on zero tolerance to bad practices, among other measures.
However, he also said that it is important that the population is educated, approaching health units with respect for professionals and equipment, since the clinical staff of each of the units is exactly there to save lives.
Regarding the visit of the President of the Republic, Sílvia Lutucuta said that health professionals, especially those at Hospital do Prenda, were very pleased with the Statesman’s visit to the health unit.
He highlighted that this unit, which currently serves an average of 700 users a day, has not had any major requalification interventions since its construction.
With this, he explained, the hospital management itself, on its own initiative and with few resources, began, in a phased manner, to provide treatment to some of the priority areas.
Along these lines, “we brought the President to verify the situation of the Hospital on site and also provide precise guidance on the mobilization of resources necessary to complete this work”.
With 250 inpatient beds, the unit provides assistance in areas such as traumatology, intensive care, internal medicine, orthopedics, general and maxillofacial surgery, as well as other services, and is also a large school for various specialties.
According to the minister, President João Lourenço “was quite satisfied with the hospital’s own initiatives, which have already resulted in the rehabilitation of the Operating Room, which is practically completed and equipped, the creation of a new area for intensive care, the expansion of hemodialysis area, currently open 24 hours a day, among others.
Minister Sílvia Lutucuta also announced that this will be the first hospital that will have a ward dedicated to nephrology services, a medical specialty dedicated to the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the urinary system, mainly related to the kidney.
However, according to the head of the health department, the challenges are still great, because the aim is to carry out a general rehabilitation of the unit.
In operation since 1974, this health unit is one of the main references in the country, and in the first half of this year it had a total of 72 thousand and 951 patients assisted.
