Africa-Press – Angola. A message from the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, was delivered, this Friday, in New York (USA), to the Secretary-General of the United Nations, António Guterres.
A note from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MIREX), states that the letter from the Angolan statesman, the content of which was not revealed, was delivered by the minister of the sector, Téte António.
According to the MIREX note, the message is assumed to be related to international peace and security issues, including the situation in the Great Lakes region, with a focus on instability in the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
The situation in eastern DRC was recently analyzed, in Luanda, at an extraordinary summit of Heads of State and Government of the Community of Southern African Development Countries (SADC), convened by its acting president, João Lourenço.
The occasion also served for minister Téte António to discuss the decisions taken from the last Extraordinary SADC Summit, held in Luanda, which addressed security and humanitarian issues that have deteriorated in this country, due to the resumption of attacks and occupation of plots of the territory via the M23.
The letter from the Angolan Head of State was delivered to the UN Secretary General in the presence of Ambassador Francisco da Cruz, Angola’s permanent representative to the United Nations.
