Minister Téte António Receives Executive Secretary of ICGLR

Africa-Press – Angola. Angolan Minister of Foreign Affairs, Téte António, received on Tuesday afternoon, in Luanda, Ambassador João Samuel Caholo, Executive Secretary of the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (ICGLR), with whom he addressed issues related to the organization.

The meeting took place in the headquarters of Angolan diplomacy and served for the two entities to focus on issues related to the day-to-day management of the ICGLR, with emphasis on the preparation of the next statutory meeting of this organization, to be held soon in the city of Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo.

The interlocutors also analysed the main operational challenges faced by the Executive Secretariat of the ICGLR, and identified possible ways of overcoming it, with a view to safeguarding the normal functioning of that multilateral structure.

On the occasion, Téte António, who currently assumes the presidency of the Regional Interministerial Committee of the ICGLR, urged the need for greater engagement of member states in complying with the decisions and recommendations issued by the competent bodies of the organization, in order to achieve common objectives.

The International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (ICGLR) is an intergovernmental organization founded on the basis of the Compact on Security, Stability and Development in the Great Lakes Region.

The ICGLR is composed of 12 member states, namely Angola, Burundi, Central African Republic, Republic of Congo, Democratic Republic of Congo, Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Sudan, South Sudan, Tanzania and Zambia.

The objective of the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (ICGLR) is to promote peace, security, stability and sustainable development in the Great Lakes region of Africa.

The organization seeks solutions for conflicts, strengthen democracy, protect human rights, encourage economic growth, promote regional integration, and address humanitarian and social issues.

ICGLR also works for gender equality and the protection of women and children.
