Africa-Press – Angola. The proposal for approval of the national policy for the production, certification and distribution of new school books for Primary Education, I and II cycles of Secondary Education, prepared by the Ministry of Education, was presented on Saturday to teachers, school managers and academics in Uíge.

The presentation of the proposal, witnessed by the director of the Provincial Education Office, Pasi Mafuta Nova, took place at the Uíge High School and served to collect contributions that will enrich the project of preparing new school textbooks.

The head of the Uíge Provincial Department of Education and Adult Education, Albertino dos Santos, who was responsible for presenting the proposal, said that, after approval, the document will define the rules and criteria for the preparation, evaluation, certification, production and distribution of school books.

The proposal, he continued, presents, among other essential elements, the content of the book, the mechanisms and control of the evaluation, the production and distribution, the use and preservation, the validity period and the monitoring mechanisms. “The contributions collected will be sent, in writing, to the Ministry of Education for evaluation and adaptation”, he highlighted.

After considering the proposal for the National School Book Policy (PNLE), the participants suggested, among other contributions, that accessible and appropriate language be used in the new textbooks to be produced, as well as requesting their periodic review and the production of a teacher’s guide.

The placement of grammatical content and word classes at the beginning of each text, in the case of the Portuguese Language manual, for primary and first cycle education, the integration of national principles, such as unity, integrity and national culture, as well as the adaptation of books to the scientific domain, were also other contributions presented by the participants.

Availability

At the end of the meeting, the director of the Human Resources Office of the Provincial Government of Uíge, Jordão Pedro Neves, guaranteed that he will make available, in the coming days, books with updated, quality content and suitable for the teaching and learning process.

“Despite the work that the Government has been undertaking in the free distribution of textbooks, the deficit in this regard is still visible, therefore, the Ministry of Education is developing appropriate policies that allow for the reinforcement of production, certification and distribution levels”, he said.

The schoolbook, he recalled, plays a preponderant role in the teaching process and, therefore, there is a need to define rules, criteria and objectives for its preparation, certification and distribution.

“To have true, quality education, it is essential that teachers and students have teaching and pedagogical resources,” he concluded.
