Africa-Press – Angola. Marcy Lopes was speaking to the Public Television of Angola (TPA), on Monday, and acknowledged that there are some constraints, but that are already being overcome.

“A process of this dimension is always liable to go through constraints, difficulties and we, as the process progresses, adapt to the circumstances and the very condition of the people”, said the official.

Despite not having advanced the numbers of registrations already carried out so far, Marcy Lopes assured that the process is taking place in a normal way, without any problems: “We cannot talk about numbers already carried out or obtained so far, exactly, because the process This means that all those people who are over 18 years old included in the Identity Card database were transferred to the MAT senior citizens database. the universe of voters that can be sent to the National Electoral Commission (CNE)”.

Marcy Lopes admitted the possibility of the country having, for the 2022 general elections, approximately 11 to 12 million voting citizens. She reinforced that citizens who have not changed their residence since 2017, that is, since the date of the last elections, do not need to go to the Single Public Service Desks (BUAP) to update their voter registration.

“You should only go to the BUAP, to update the electoral register, two categories of citizens: first, they are citizens who are already integrated in the database of older citizens. Because they registered in 2016-2017 and, since that date, Therefore, they must go to the BUAP to say where they are residing so that the Computer File of older citizens sent to the CNE can then place them in the place closest to their residence to vote, via the electoral roll which are prepared by the National Electoral Commission”, he explained.

The second category of citizens who must update their voter registration, he added, are people who are 18 years old after the last election. “If these people, in 2017, were not 18 years old, and therefore did not vote, they must go to the BUAP to let them know where they are residing, so that, in the electoral roll, the National Electoral Commission can place citizen A and citizen B in the place closest to your residence, to exercise your right to vote “, he continued.

The Minister of Territory Administration also spoke of the importance of the citizen’s card, having indicated that it only serves to specify the place where people reside : “This document, from the outset, serves to progressively eliminate the Residence Certificate by municipal administrations”.

“And, as the Government’s forecast, in partnership with the National Electoral Commission, is to discontinue the voter card, that is, by 2027 the forecast is to stop issuing the electoral card, because, from the start, we will have national coverage of the Identity Card, then this card will be discontinued and people will exercise their right to vote with the Identity Card”, he concluded.
