Africa-Press – Angola. A ton of food items were collected in the municipality of Ombadja, province of Cunene, by the organization of the Mister Cunene Committee, for the benefit of the leprosy community at the Hospital da Missão Católico do Chiulo.

The donation, collected during a solidarity football match, which took place over the weekend, in the town of Xangongo, is a promotion by the Mister Cunene Committee, in partnership with the Ombadja Municipal Youth and Sports Office.

The information was provided this Thursday by the activity coordinator, Santos Simwefeleni, highlighting that the donation will benefit 100 members of the Chiulo leper colony.

He explained that the intention is to help this fringe of society with basic necessities, especially food and some clothing, to minimize the needs that lepers face.

“At this point, we are creating the conditions to define the dates, with the Municipal Social Action Office, to take the goods to the respective beneficiaries”, he said.

Santos Simwefeleni stressed that activities of this kind will be continuous, with a view to reaching out to other people who live in need.

For her part, the municipal administrator of Ombadja, Elizeth Mwamelungi, praised the initiative, which she considered to be a solidarity action of great significance given the difficulties that families face in order to feed themselves.

Elizeth Mwamelungi called for the promotion of more initiatives of this kind, especially among youth as a way of contributing to the social well-being of disadvantaged people.

The province of Cunene has two leper hospitals in the town of Oifidi, in the municipality of Cuanhama and in the Hospital Católico do Chiulo, in Ombadja, where 10 adult patients are undergoing treatment and recovery.

Currently, Mr. Cunene 2023 is Eldegado Catraio, 19 years old, elected for a one-year term, with the program of developing solidarity actions, combating early pregnancy and preventive measures against sexually transmitted diseases.
