Africa-Press – Angola. More than 2,259 migratory movements between the Angolan southern Province of Namibe and the Republic of Namibia, were recorded by the Border Police (PGF), in the town of Monte Negro, municipality of Iona, in the last 12 months.
The information was given on Wednesday, in the city of Moçamedes, by the provincial commander of the PGF, José Domingos Fernandes, when he was speaking during the celebrations of the institution’s 47th anniversary.
The official said that, compared to the previous period, there was an increase of 1,233 movements of citizens due to medical, business and the acquisition of various products.
Of the registered movement, he explained that among the citizens there are 1,170 Angolans, while 1,089 are from Namibia.
José Domingos Fernandes also reported that the border guard post at the mouth of the Cunene River, the naval post in the municipality of Tômbwa and the naval post in Lucira carried out the control and registration of the presence of 141 vehicles with citizens of different nationalities, totaling 264, with the aim of practicing tourism.
He further explained that, during the reporting period, the Tômbwa, the Lucira, Baba, Chapéu Armado naval posts, and the Saco Mar outpost observed and recorded the movement of 3,341 small and medium-sized fishing vessels, with 40,697 sailors on board.
The official said that as a result of the patrols, 58 citizens were questioned for border violations, theft, drug use, illegal stay, as well as illegal fishing activity. Of the number 32 were Angolan and 26 Namibian.
