Africa-Press – Angola. Three hundred 60 families from the Ongwe community, on the outskirts of the city of Ondjiva, southern Cunene province, benefited, this Friday, for the first time, from the supply of electricity from the public network, with the inauguration of a transformation pole .

The project inaugurated by the Deputy Governor for Technical Services and Infrastructure, António Matias, is part of the plan to expand the electricity grid in the city of Ondjiva, budgeted at 85 million, 300,300 kwanzas.

Along with the home network, it also allowed for the extension of 1,800 meters of the medium voltage network and 2,080 meters of low voltage for public lighting, with the placement of 52 poles and respective luminaires.

On the occasion, the director of Cunene’s infrastructure office, Édio José, called for the rational use of energy, in order to take advantage of the public investment made available and to avoid episodes of vandalism.

Édio José said that it was an investment aimed at improving the living conditions of the population, a fact that needs to be preserved, and, for this purpose, anarchic connections should be avoided, to guarantee a functional network.

In turn, the beneficiaries Angelina Maria, Madalena Midreia and Januário da Cruz praised the execution of the project, emphasizing that it is an added value for the community that has been clamoring for this public good for over 27 years.

The city of Ondjiva, capital of the province of Cunene, currently has 95 thousand, 628 inhabitants distributed in 24 districts.
