Africa-Press – Angola. More than 80,000 peasant families associated in cooperatives benefited, until the beginning of March, from “inputs” and agricultural inputs, within the scope of the Executive’s agricultural promotion program, in the municipality of Cubal, Benguela province.

The local municipal administrator, Paulino Banja, who provided the information, said that the families benefited from 17 tractors, within the scope of the 500 announced by the Executive, which are helping to promote and expand agriculture in the municipality and the support is being included in the 2022/2023 Agricultural Campaign.

Families, added Paulino Banja, also benefited, under the Executive’s program to promote agriculture, from motor-pumps and respective hoses, hoes, maize, massango, sorghum and bean seeds, as well as fertilizers. Beneficiaries also received machetes, pickaxes and files.

In the municipality of Cubal, he informed, there are 148 production units, 101 of which are peasant associations and 47 agricultural cooperatives. in a controlled and coordinated manner by the Directorate of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries of Cubal.

These families who practice family farming in isolation, he added, cultivate more than 4,445 hectares of corn, sorghum, beans and other cereals.

The gains, he said, are making a positive contribution to the program to combat hunger and poverty in the various locations in the municipality of Cubal.

The municipal administrator of Cubal informed that, as part of the promotion of integrated development, there are 118 companies in the municipality operating in the commercial sector. He added that 62 companies are in the process of licensing.

In Cubal, he indicated, there are 376 commercial establishments, including stores, warehouses, canteens and others. He added that the contribution of millers who are dedicated to transforming maize into corn meal is salutary.

Within the scope of the Integrated Program for Local Development to Combat Poverty (PIDLCP), it was also possible to build and acquire means for empowering self-employment.

With the program, he guaranteed, it was possible to build a rural fruit and vegetable market with capacity for more than 100 benches, on the outskirts of the municipal headquarters.

Cereal transformation stimulates agricultural production

Paulino Banja announced that, with the agriculture promotion program, it was possible to acquire two mills for transforming corn into corn meal and 35 two-wheel motorbikes to transport production from the countryside to the city.

He explained that motorcycles with respective helmets were also acquired to support the social reintegration of former soldiers and their families in motorcycle taxi services and facilitating the flow of products from the countryside produced by cooperatives and brigades, among others.

According to the municipal administrator of Cubal, 10 locksmith and retreading kits and three other sound equipment kits were also purchased.

With an estimated population of 397,005 inhabitants, the municipality of Cubal has an area of ​​around 4,812 km2 and is located to the east by Benguela and is limited to the north by the municipality of Bocoio, to the south by Chongoroi and Caluquembe (Huíla), to the east by Ganda and to the west by Caimbambo.

The provincial governor of Benguela, Luís Nunes, who visited the municipality of Cubal a few days ago, reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to investing more in agriculture, so that the income of peasant families can be improved.

He highlighted the commitment of the farmers and peasants of the municipality of Cubal, in agricultural production and guaranteed that the actions that strengthen associations and cooperatives of peasants will continue.
