The data were disclosed on Friday by the representative of the demining agency in Zaire province, Lourenc̀§o Antunes, during an act of demolition of unexploded ordnance, which took place in the village of Mbanza Mazina, on the outskirts of the city of Mbanza Kongo.

During the demining actions, he said, 14 anti-personnel mines, an anti-tank mine, 1,980 uxos and 2,119 different types of ammunition were removed and destroyed.

Lourenc̀§o Antunes said that, in some locations in the municipality of Mbanza Kongo, a campaign to raise awareness of the population called “education on the risk of mines” was taking place, with 591 people from the villages of Nkoko, Sumpi and Dobo having already been sensitized.

For next year, the source said that actions to raise awareness and educate the population about the risk of mines will be aimed at the communes of Kindege and Kibala Norte, in the municipality of Nzeto.
