Africa-Press – Angola. Six thousand and four Southern African Development Community (SADC) driving licenses have been issued, since the launch of the process in August 2022, by the Department of Traffic and Road Safety (DTSR) in Cunene province.
The information was provided, Thursday, by the head of this body in the province, chief superintendent André Mandela, noting that two thousand and 344 booklets were issued, resulting from nine thousand and 489 processes that were filed.
Speaking at the event commemorating the 45th anniversary of the Department of Traffic and Road Safety, marked on March 21, he said that they are awaiting the printing of 1,140 various documents.
In terms of road accidents, he made it known that from January to March 15 of this year, 80 accidents were recorded, causing nine deaths and 99 injuries, with material damage to be assessed.
The accidents were caused by excessive speed, lack of lighting in vehicles, poor pedestrian crossing, failure to give way, non-compliance with the rules of the road code and poor driving, particularly by motorcycle taxi drivers.
For his part, the second commander of the National Police in Cunene, deputy commissioner Francisco Mansão, said that the increase in accidents and their consequences requires measures to be taken to reinforce supervision and pedagogical prevention.
During his speech, the senior officer gave an overview of the body’s historical path, until it reached current technological developments.
Under the motto “DTSR 45 years, focused on the modernization, expansion and humanization of services towards the reduction of road accidents”, the event was marked by the exhibition of equipment linked to road prevention and control.
