Africa-Press – Angola. A reception center for teenage women, with capacity to house 96 people, called “Santa Isabel”, was opened Tuesday in Luena, Moxico province, by the First Lady of the Republic, Ana Dias Lourenço.
The integrated project, belonging to the Catholic Church, was implemented in a total area of 100 square meters, with financing from the oil company TotalEnergies and its partners, whose works began in 2021.
The infrastructure, which will accommodate children and teenagers from seven to 12 years of age, has several compartments, which will house the administrative area, cafeteria, study room and six bedrooms.
On the occasion, the First Lady of the Republic, Ana Dias Lourenço, highlighted the importance of the project, stating that it will contribute significantly to the empowerment of women and serve as a catalyst for families to combat poverty and promote gender equality.
Ana Dias Lourenço called for the involvement of various social and civil organizations, in order to contribute with their actions to the sustainability of the home.
The bishop of the Diocese of Luena, Dom Martin Lasart, praised the gesture recommended by the sponsoring companies, stating that the project could contribute positively to the education and training of women, in a province with a high rate of illiteracy and a lack of school infrastructure.
Along the same path, little Laurinda Txinquevo, one of the beneficiaries, thanked all the contributors for their gesture, requesting support for its normal functioning, especially transportation and upgrading the home to a school complex to facilitate the continuity of the children’s education.
It should be noted that in her work agenda in Moxico, the First Lady of the Republic also laid the first stone for the construction of a school called “Liceu Eiffel” in this region of the country.
The project, with a construction area of two thousand 900 square meters, will have six classrooms, four laboratories, namely Chemistry, Biology, Physics and IT and other support laboratories, which will be able to house around 150 young people.
Built in the west zone of the city of Luena, in the Vila Luso neighborhood, the project, with financing from the oil companies, partners of Block 32 (ANPG, Total Energies, Sonangol, Exon Mobile and Galp), will last 18 months, the The contract was awarded to the company Heros, Lda, Engenharia e Construção Civil.
The province of Moxico has more than 243 public, public-private and private schools with a gross workforce of seven thousand 277 teachers, for more than 300 thousand students, distributed across the different Education subsystems.
Located in the east of the country, the province of Moxico, with an area of 223 thousand 23 square kilometers, has more than one million inhabitants, whose capital is the city of Luena, which is home to more than half of the population.
