Africa-Press – Angola. The first secretary of the MPLA in Cuando Cubango, José Martins, thanked the militants, sympathizers, friends and the population of the province in the municipality of Cuchi for the victory of the party in the General Elections of 24 August.

In this province, the MPLA obtained 81,399 votes, corresponding to 68.87 percent and the consequent conquest of four of the five deputies by the local constituency.

During the festivities, the politician highlighted the fact that the main opponent (UNITA) had obtained 31,832 votes, corresponding to 26.93%, electing only one parliamentarian for the Cuando Cubango circle. The opposing party, he added, has already conceded defeat without any challenge to the general results of the voting process.

José Martins said that the MPLA victory began to be celebrated in Menongue and Cuchi, but it could be extended to the remaining seven municipalities in the province so that the population also vibrates with joy.

He recalled that the actions for the development of the province announced by the party’s president, João Lourenço, at the Menongue rally, during the electoral campaign, have guaranteed investment, with emphasis on the Caiundo/Dirico road section, passing through Cuangar/Calai, Cuito Cuanavale /Mavinga, Nancova/Rivungo.

The conclusion of the works on the Pólo Universitário, central Tucuve, power supply from the hydroelectric dam of Gove, in Huambo, in addition to other projects for solar electrification of municipal, communal and villages in the nine municipalities of the Cuando Cubango, initiatives to be completed in the next five years.

Added to these achievements are the dozens of projects of the Integrated Plan for Intervention in Municipalities (PIIM), in progress throughout the province, some of which will be inaugurated soon, adding that the actions, once concluded, will give “Cuando Cubango a giant step in the development chapter”.

José Martins said that Cuando Cubango has a vast territory of about 200,000 square kilometers, endowed with exuberant landscapes, and can be transformed into a tourism hub.

He referred that the youth will be called upon to contribute with all their knowledge to the multiple needs in the sectors of Education, Health, Civil Construction, tourist guides, Telecommunications, among others.

Faced with this reality, he stressed that the province needs to bring together synergies to develop a commitment to the involvement of other staff and transform the province into a good place to live.

He also pointed out, for the next five years, the focus on grain production, namely, the cultivation of rice, corn, millet, massambala, soy to guarantee food self-sufficiency for families, as well as contribute to the maximization of the country’s economy.

He underlined that the municipality of Cuchi must rescue the mystique of the production of corn, beans and massambala, since, in the 70s and 80s of the 20th century, it was considered a great granary that supplied the urban centers of the provinces of Huíla and Namibe, through the railways.
