Africa-Press – Angola. The MPLA party stands apart from any incitement by its members to promote disobedience and political intolerance in the country, as other political formations want to insinuate, declared its general secretary, Paulo Pombolo.

The politician spoke in statements to journalists, Saturday, in the commune of Funda (Cacuaco-Luanda), on the sidelines of the launch of the campaign “April of Peace, Love and Forgiveness-More Angola, More Citizenship”.

He was reacting to the incident last Friday, in the section between Longa and Cuito Cuanavale, in the province of Cuando Cubango, where a UNITA delegation was attacked by members of the public, when it intended to carry out a mass political event.

According to the leader, the MPLA cannot be the one to incite disobedience and promote political intolerance, as other political parties have accused it.

“The MPLA, due to its size, is in fact the party of peace. It is we, the MPLA, who fight for this country to be pacified. We are the ones who put an end to the war”, emphasized the secretary general, Paulo Pombolo, when contesting alleged accusations by certain political circles of inciting their militants to “disobedience and promoting political intolerance”.

According to him, the Defense and Security bodies, mainly the National Police (PN), have already released a statement regarding the alleged incident at that location, in which they say they are working to investigate and find the veracity of what happened.

Saturday, at the launch of the “April of Peace, Love and Forgiveness-More Angola, More Citizenship” campaign, representing the President of the MPLA, João Lourenço, Secretary General Paulo Pombolo reiterated the continuous praise, promotion and defense of peace as one of the patriotic values for deepening unity, reconciliation, tolerance and respect among Angolans.
