The military prosecutor of the province of Cunene, Colonel José Camilo, asked, this Saturday, in Ondjiva, for the collaboration of personnel from the Angolan Armed Forces (FAA) and internal security and order bodies in the protection and preservation of the environment and natural resources.

The magistrate spoke during a lecture on “the role of military bodies in protecting the environment”, as part of the commemorative day of Legality Week, with a view to celebrating 45 years of the institutionalization of the Attorney General’s Office (PGR), marked by April 27th.

On the occasion, he said that it is essential that employees are aware of the importance of protecting and preserving the environment in which they operate, which constitutes an individual responsibility of institutions and organizations, particularly in the protection of natural resources.

The judge said that, within the framework of other missions of public interest, assigned to defense and security bodies, it is essential to improve the response capacity of national defense in the face of increasing attacks on the ecosystem and national heritage, such as maritime pollution and abusive use of resources. natural.

Currently, he continued, we are witnessing scenarios of disorderly, illegal and devastating exploitation of natural resources and substantial degradation of the environment in different regions of the country.

He recalled that the mission of military bodies is to guarantee national Independence, preserve the sovereignty, unity and integrity of the country and ensure the functioning of institutions and the safety of citizens against any external threat or aggression.

In turn, the spokesperson for the day and public prosecutor at the Criminal Investigation Service (SIC) in Cunene, Fernando Miguel, defended policies to raise awareness among staff about ways of acting and preserving the environment

He said that, as they are agents embedded in communities, there is a need for staff to be equipped with tools on matters linked to environmental protection to safeguard natural resources.

Running from the 22nd to the 27th of this month, the Legality Week days included various activities such as lectures, radio debates and others of a sporting nature.

The PGR was institutionalized on April 27, 1979, with the approval of Law no 5/90.
