MPLA discourages narratives of violence against women

Africa-Press – Angola. The vice-president of the MPLA, Luísa Damião, discouraged, this Friday, in Luanda, the construction of narratives of violence against women and hate speech on social media.

The politician, who spoke at the opening of the 5th Ordinary Meeting of the OMA National Committee, called on society to resort to participation in cases of violence, in ways that increasingly increase the culture of reporting.

He stated that at certain times silence works as an accomplice to violence itself, requiring the engagement of the entire society to combat impunity in these situations.

“Because if people don’t report cases of violence, no one knows about them and we cannot find a solution to these cases”, he stressed.

According to Luísa Damião, faced with the constant attempt to subvert public opinion, through misinformation and the promotion of “put it down” narratives and the minimization of the Executive’s great achievements and undertakings, the OMA must remain vigilant, reinforce proximity with the different strata and ensure the circulation of quality information and the gains of what has been done and is being done in the country.

This shared reality, he said, must be a social laboratory that sharpens the organization’s sociological imagination, innovation and political ingenuity, in order to reinforce its social and political relevance among its public.

According to Luísa Damião, women have always been the factor of balance, sustainability, development of families and the societies in which they operate, which is why the MPLA renews its support for the OMA daily.

Luísa Damião highlighted the achievements achieved by Angolan women, exemplifying the high levels of the three powers exercised by the country’s female layer, the Legislative, Executive and Judicial, which, in some way, instill some difference. “Only a modern party like the MPLA is capable of making this progress”, she said.

Regarding the meeting that will focus on topics of capital importance for the internal life of the organization, the vice-president of the MPLA said that meetings of this kind are essential, but should not be just an opportunity to enforce statutory and organic provisions.

She asked for a space to be dedicated to reflecting on the windows of work opportunities, in ways that could serve to mobilize and galvanize women and improve ongoing actions, or raise new approaches for the OMA.

She explained that the status of organization protecting women and the family, which has always been attributed to the OMA, requires the intensification of concrete actions and projects to help women and society’s problems.

In this way, he said, Angolan women will increasingly find at OMA an environment of defense of values and principles that should not be given up due to the negative winds of globalization and the emergence of new information and communication technologies.

He stated that wherever there is a woman crying for help, the whistle must sound, for everyone.

Luísa Damião informed that, in the current situation, the OMA faces a set of challenges and a great responsibility, taking into account that humanity is made up mainly of women and the Party’s strategy for this segment, passes fundamentally through the OMA, the leaders and organization staff.

She added that reinforcing that the social organizations of the party in general and, particularly, the OMA, are called upon to provide greater dynamism, greater proactivity and political imagination for the sharing of information and broad mobilization of women around issues of governance, development and women’s concerns.

From her point of view, considering that on a daily basis women still face great difficulties, which are made worse by the context of poverty in their environment, often due to financial limitations or lack of family support.

As a result, he added that the OMA must continue to reinforce mechanisms for the protection, monitoring and social mentoring of women, especially young women.

“In this regard, we have been following some very successful actions that are contributing to alleviating women’s difficulties, which we consider to be of great importance, and for this reason, we want to congratulate and encourage them to be carried out across the entire length of our territory, there Where there are more difficulties, the OMA’s action must be more intense”, he asserted.

On the other hand, he said the OMA must continue to materialize its strategy, which aims to attract more young women, considering their numerical expressiveness in the demographic structure of the people.

She stated that social reality and the processes inherent to the conquest and management of political power are in constant transformation and mutation, throughout the world, so women must be increasingly informed to understand the situation in which phenomena unfold and having mastery of information, in the current context, transforming it into a synonym of power.

“The advances are visible and notable, as achievements multiply, in almost all areas of the country’s life, especially in science. Today, we have more women in general, technical-professional education institutions and universities, namely: students, teachers, researchers and managers”, he highlighted.

For the leader, all these achievements also have the fingerprints of the precursor generations that preceded the current generations of OMA activists, leaders and staff, who must continue to follow the path of active participation in decision-making processes and matters that concern, as women.

She reiterated that women must support each other, always valuing and praising the work of each one, always avoiding the “put it down” policy.
