MPLA highlights commitment to youth training

Africa-Press – Angola. The general secretary of the MPLA, Paulo Pombolo, highlighted today, Saturday, in the city of Cuito, Bié province, the need to invest in the academic training of youth, to respond to the challenge of promoting the country’s socioeconomic development.

Paulo Pombolo was speaking during a meeting he held, at the International University of Cuanza, with leaders of sports and social associations, as well as students from the five higher education institutions operating in the province, of which two are public and three are private.

The aforementioned meeting, held in continuation of its four-day work agenda in this region of the center of the country, which began last Thursday, is part of the Mais Angola, Mais Cidadania program, carried out by the Citizenship and Civil Society Office of the MPLA.

On the occasion, Paulo Pombolo said that, after Angola has achieved peace, its socio-economic development is a major challenge, which is only possible with a serious investment in the academic training of youth, at all levels, so that they have the necessary skills for reconstruction and national development.

In this regard, the party leader was satisfied with the reality of higher education in Bié, highlighting that it has everything to offer the human capital needed for the development of Angola.

“In terms of training higher-level staff, we think that Bié is on the right track and we hope that this experience will be extended to other regions of the country”, he highlighted.

At the end of the meeting, Paulo Pombolo delivered, within the framework of the Mais Cidadania, Mais Angola Program, a desktop computer to each of the student associations of the five higher education institutions in the province, with the aim of contributing to the creation of conditions for their better functioning.

Challenges of the sector in the province

In turn, the governor of Bié, Pereira Alfredo, highlighted the transformation of the region into a true academic and scientific research center in the country as a challenge for local authorities for the sector.

He also noted the opening, in the near future, of more postgraduate courses in the most varied levels of knowledge areas, to increase the differentiated training offer and strengthen the education chain in the province.

Currently, the region only has one course in this specialty, to be taught, from the 28th, by the Escola Superior Pedagógica do Bié, aimed at strengthening the pedagogical skills of higher and general education teachers.

This reality, according to the government official, has conditioned the local academic population to continue their training, since greater opportunities are found in other provinces, whose costs are aggravated by travel.

For this reason, he continued, it is necessary to open these courses in the province, in order to mitigate the difficulties of the student community, made up of students coming from the 18 provinces of Angola and other countries.

He also reminded those present about the gains recorded in the sector since peace was achieved, as it currently has a student population estimated at more than 14 thousand, compared to more than 2500, and more than two dozen courses taught, while in the In the past there were only five.

Paulo Pombolo heads a delegation made up of members of the Political Bureau and the Central Committee of the MPLA, who worked, on Friday, in the municipalities of Cuito, Catabola, Cunhinga, Chitembo, Chinguar and Nharea, with the aim of finding out about the socio-political situation and party organization.

In these municipalities, the delegation visited the action committees and social projects to be built within the scope of public programs as well as delivering professional kits to ex-military cooperatives.

The third day of work, he led a mass political event in the municipalities of Cuito and Chinguar.

Sunday, the last day, a thanksgiving service is reserved at the Peace Cathedral of the Evangelical Congregational Church in Angola (IECA).
