Africa-Press – Angola. The MPLA Provincial Committee in Bié recognized tday, in Cuito, the efforts and sacrifices of Angolan women in the struggle for national liberation, and in the process of consolidating Angola as a democratic State based on the rule of law.
In a note, within the scope of the “Março Mulher” Days, the MPLA indicates that Angolan women have conquered spaces in institutions at national and international level on their own merit.
Therefore, it appeals to the female layer to continue to invest in academic training.
The MPLA, reads in the note, will continue to encourage the Government to work to safeguard the constitutional rights, guarantees and freedom of Angolan women and to ensure their empowerment, within the framework of improving the quality of life of their families and communities .
Meanwhile, the Organization of Angolan Women (OMA) in Bié proceeded yesterday, in Cuito, to open the “Março Mulher” journeys, with the laying of a wreath at the Helena de Almeida memorial, located in the neighborhood with the same name.
For the OMA secretary in the region, Emília da Conceição Pandjimba, the action aims to honor all heroines who, sparing no sacrifice, contributed to the achievement of independence.
Also within the scope of the “Março Mulher” days, the OMA secretariat in Bié delivered layettes to the 10 babies who were born at the Materno Infantil center in Cuito.
During the days, which end on the 30th of the current month, lectures on various social themes are scheduled, as well as visits to social institutions in the nine municipalities of Bié province.
In Angola, the 2nd of March is celebrated, the Angolan Women’s Day, in recognition of their role in the resistance struggle of the Angolan people against the Portuguese colonial occupation.
March 8 is International Women’s Day. On this date, in the year 1917, thousands of women gathered in Russia in protest, which became known as “Bread and Peace”.
