MPLA in Caála wants young people to invest in agriculture

Africa-Press – Angola. The new coordinator of the follow-up group of the MPLA provincial committee in Huambo province for the municipality of Caála, Armando Capunda, recommended Friday, that young people in the municipality invest more in agriculture.

The politician made this recommendation during the MPLA Militant Assembly in the municipality of Caála, held at the municipal headquarters, with the aim of presenting the new members of the accompanying group of the Provincial Committee of the party of comrades for this region of Huambo province.

Armando Capunda reminded those present that the country’s development process requires the dynamization of the agriculture sector, in order to create objective conditions for revitalizing the industry, with a view to responding to the challenges of diversifying the national economy.

In this context, he continued, it is imperative that young people from Caála, within the framework of their ambitions and development prospects, favor the agriculture sector, defining production strategies, to sustain industries and, consequently, maximize jobs in the municipality.

In the politician’s view, the region has favorable conditions for the realization of these challenges, since, in addition to arable land, it is the only one in the province that has an Industrial Development Pole, with an area of 952.5 hectares of land, of which only 11% are occupied where six manufacturing units operate in this municipality.

“For this reason, we understand that it is important for young people to invest in agriculture, in order to contribute to the process of revitalizing the city’s industry, developing the economy and combating unemployment”, he said.

The municipality of Caála, one of 11 in the province of Huambo, has 99 thousand and 307.5 hectares of cultivable area for the production of cereals, tubers, legumes and various vegetables.

In this locality, 66 thousand and 205 peasant families organized in 131 cooperatives and 150 associations are controlled, involved in the productive process in the current agricultural campaign, with a forecast of harvest of 300 thousand to 500 thousand tons of diverse products.

In addition to consumption, they have taken the surplus to the markets for sale, a situation that has gradually contributed to local programs to combat unemployment in the communities.
