Africa-Press – Angola. The MPLA’s first secretary in Luanda, Luís Nunes, on Wednesday urged members to have a greater presence in meetings called by the leaders of the Party’s Action Committees (CAP). The politician, who was speaking during a meeting with grassroots organisations and former party leaders in Luanda, said that the MPLA’s priority in its activity programmes is to meet with the first secretaries of the CAPs, as the foundations of the party are at the grassroots.
“We have to go down to the grassroots in order to rise with them. This is the first meeting we are holding and we have chosen the municipality of Viana, which in principle has 1,000 CAP secretaries, to bring together the five thousand that Luanda has at once”, he said.Luís Nunes stressed that the party will carry out the same exercise in a few weeks’ time in all municipalities of the country’s capital, to deal with the issues that arise in each of the CAPs.
“The meeting is the first of many that will take place from now on, because this is where the problems we face will be resolved. One of the things that worries me most, as the first secretary of the MPLA in Luanda, is the lack of participation in the meetings called by the first secretaries of the CAPs in our municipalities”, he lamented, adding that it is important to know why members are absent from the meetings of the grassroots structures.
“I want to hear more from the first secretaries about what is actually happening, since it is a situation that worries me, because in last year’s elections we lost three deputies in Luanda”, he stressed.
For the MPLA’s first secretary, the party must be more united in its grassroots structures in order to restore its mystique in Luanda, and he therefore called for hard work in order to achieve the objectives set out in the next General Elections.
“I am here with around a thousand secretaries and I know that we have many problems in our CAPs and we are also aware that not all the problems will be solved at once”, said Luís Nunes, who asked the CAP secretaries to be more dynamic, strong and proactive.
