Namibia intends to open new border crossings

Africa-Press – Angola. Namibia intends to open, later this year, new border crossings in the area of Monte Negro, municipality of Tômbwa (Namibe), informed, this Tuesday, in Moçâmedes, the consul general of this country in Ondjiva, Cunene, Kanaki Tjejamba .
The information was given to the press at the end of a courtesy meeting with the governor of Namibe, Archer Mangueira, with the consul-general on a working visit to the province within the framework of bilateral cooperation, adding that the intention is to extend police posts in the border areas with greater movement of people.

According to Kanaki Tjejamba, in the Monte Negro crossing area, Angolans go to Namibia daily in search of some services, such as education, health and commerce, without any control by the police in both countries.

For this reason, he considered it necessary for the authorities of the two countries, which share an extensive border, to find a way for better circulation and security of their respective peoples.

He said that Otchifengo and Monte Negro are the areas with the greatest crossings of Angolan and Namibian people, justifying the need for new police stations to improve control in terms of migration.

”The migratory situation in this area represents a certain risk, because crossing it is done without security and there is no value to be charged on either side, hence the need to establish a strategy that guarantees the stability of the two peoples, specifically, the creation of border posts”, he underlined.

Angola and Namibia share a border of 1,367 kilometers.
