Africa-Press – Angola. The National Police Command in the municipality of Caála, Huambo province, promotes since today, Friday, a campaign to raise awareness against road accidents, mainly on national roads 120 and 260.

The operation, part of the celebrations of the 47th anniversary of the National Police, to be celebrated on the 28th of this month, will take place on the main road sections of the municipality, with emphasis on national roads 120 and 2060, where the highest number of road accidents occur.

The spokesman for the National Police in the municipality of Caála, Evimbe Gomes, said that the corporation is approaching road safety with motorists, from the perspective of preventing road accidents, with increased discipline in driving and compliance with the Highway Code.

He said that the initiative aims to raise the awareness of drivers and increase social responsibility on the roads, as the municipality registers an average of two to three accidents daily, characterized by overturning, collision between cars and motorcycles, collisions between vehicles, skidding and being run over, resulting from excessive speed.

The commemorative program also provides for lectures on the history of the National Police and blood donation campaigns.

The 28th of February, according to history, started to be celebrated as National Police Day because it was on this date, in 1976, when the first President of Angola, António Agostinho Neto, visited the Mártires do Kapolo police school, in Luanda.
