Africa-Press – Angola. The implementation of the National Space Strategy 2016-2025 is achieving concrete results, and contributing to improving the lives of Angolans, said this Tuesday, the director general of the National Space Program Management Office (GGPEN) , Zolana João.

When speaking at the III edition of New Space Africa (African Space Conference 2024), he highlighted that the results of the strategy should be presented, from a concrete point of view, throughout the event.

Regarding the event, he explained that it was a project that emerged two years ago in Washington (USA), at the time of the meeting between the United States and Africa, in which minister Mário Oliveira launched a challenge that is to place Angola on the world map, recognized as a power in the space sector, starting with Southern Africa, then the African continent and then at the top level.

The general director of Space In Africa, Temidayo Oniosun, highlighted that the conference shows the commitment to collaboration and development in the space sector at the continent level.

In his opinion, the conference serves as a lever for the large investments made in the sector, demonstrating Angola’s drive and efforts in this field.

He highlighted that the event remains a main instrument, where technological advances exist, around the space industry chain.

According to him, with this event, “we will be in a position to open up more opportunities. In the next four days, we will have a Network that will bring together space industry players.”

For his part, the African Union’s commissioner for education, science, technology and innovation, Mohammed Belhocine, thanked the invitation to be part of the event, highlighting that the meeting will address very general issues rather than technical ones.

The III edition of New Space Africa (African Space Conference 2024), in which the participation of stands from the largest space agencies in the world is expected, will take place from the 2nd to the 5th of April.

The event analyzes how technology can be used to solve the situation that Africa is struggling with, regarding poverty, in terms of the transformative potential of space technology in issues related to agriculture, health and security.

The largest space event on the continent, organized by Space in Africa, in partnership with the African Union and the National Space Program Management Office (GGPEN), brings together decision-makers, government representatives, leaders of academia and the African space industry, in an environment which will seek to analyze the role of space in reducing the poverty gap.

The event has stands from NASA (US Space Agency), the European Space Agency (ESA), SANSA (South Africa) and KSA (Kenya).

The event also brings together representatives from 54 countries, with emphasis on emissaries from NASA, the European space agency, as well as Russia and China.
