Africa-Press – Angola. The National Transmission Network (RNT) company plans to connect Angola’s central and southern regions via the interconnected power system before the end of 2025.
The national interconnected power system currently only covers the north and centre of the country.
According to the RNT’s spokesperson, Marcelino Camona, the company is working to expand the energy supply connecting the cities of Huambo and Lubango.
“If all goes well, this interconnection could happen by the last quarter of this year,” he told the 14th edition of the Benguela International Fair.
The north is home to most of the country’s dams, resulting in a surplus in terms of electricity production. In contrast, the south of Angola is struggling with energy shortages, which is why the government is investing in connecting this region to the national interconnected system, which already benefits the north and centre.
The National Energy Transmission Network was created as part of the Electricity Sector Transformation Program (PTSE), by Presidential Decree 305/14 of 20 November, in accordance with the Angolan Energy Security Policy (PSEA).
