Africa-Press – Angola. The population of the Cabrais neighborhood, in the municipality of Catumbela (Benguela), victim of the rains of March 11, 2015, received a food market this Saturday, after nine years of difficulties.
The infrastructure was built within the scope of the social responsibility of the Energy Production Company (PRODEL), which has the photovoltaic plant in Biópio, a few kilometers away.
According to the social sector coordinator of the construction company MCA, Afonso Baptista, the market was built in a space of 500 square meters, just a few meters from the EN100 national road, and has 153 double stalls.
“The market will be under the responsibility of the Libertadores Unidos de Angola (LUA) cooperative, which will supervise its operation, hygiene and safety,” he explained.
Marisa Afonso, representative of the cooperative, told that at the moment, the stallholders are being registered with the Biópio Communal Administration to occupy their respective places in the market.
“From now on, the population will no longer travel several kilometers to buy supplies at the Tchapanguele market, in Lobito, or go north, in Culango or Bocoio”, he stated.
Still talking about the benefits of the market, Marisa Afonso was grateful for the fact that people who sold on the side of the road, at risk of being run over, had their own place to sell.
In turn, the municipal administrator of Catumbela, Kátia Teixeira, spoke a few words of circumstance, appreciating PRODEL’s gesture for the initiative.
He also stated that the aforementioned market will create opportunities for entrepreneurship and boost the local economy.
The Cabrais neighborhood was built in 2015, a few months after the heavy rains that hit the municipalities of Lobito and Catumbela, killing dozens of people and causing extensive material damage.
