Africa-Press – Angola. The new building where the Council of the Angolan Bar Association (OAA) will operate in the province of Huambo was inaugurated, this Friday, by the local vice-governor for the Political, Social and Economic sector, Angelino Elavoco.
Located in the Santo António neighborhood, an urbanizing area on the outskirts of the city of Huambo, the building was built with funds resulting from the monthly fees of lawyers affiliated with the provincial council.
The construction of the modern building, costing more than 69 million Kwanzas, is part of the strategy of the Council of the Angolan Bar Association in Huambo, which aims to provide the institution with new facilities and guarantee better comfort and greater professional performance.
The project includes, among others, offices for the president and vice-president, council members, a conference room and another classroom for lawyer training, a library and an area reserved for users.
On the occasion, the vice-governor of Huambo, Angelino Elavoco, said that the new headquarters building of the Provincial Council of the Angolan Bar Association constitutes a historic achievement, due to the fact that, despite the economic and financial context in which the country finds itself, to have been one of the few infrastructures built without government participation.
“It is important to say here that the government did not invest even a single Kwanza for the construction of this building. Hence the reason for satisfaction, as it has been proven that it is possible, regardless of the context, for private institutions or organizations such as the Bar Association to mobilize means and resources to achieve their plans and objectives”, he emphasized.
In turn, president of the Angolan Bar Association, Luís Paulo Monteiro, said that the inauguration of the new headquarters of the Huambo provincial council represents a “huge gain”, both for lawyers and users, within the scope of legal assistance , focusing on compliance with constitutional obligations.
On the sidelines of the inaugural act, honorable mentions were awarded to some institutions for their commitment and dedication to the cause of law, namely the Military Court of the Central Military Region, the Penitentiary Services of the civil forum, the Delegation and the directors of the Angolan Public Television Production Center (TPA), Rádio Nacional de Angola (RNA), Edições Novembro and Rádio Mais.
Also scheduled for today is a ceremony to award professional certificates to 28 new lawyers and 188 interns, the latter after 18 months of training.
Established in 1996, at the time as Provincial Delegate, the Council of the Bar Association of Angola in Huambo currently controls 341 lawyers and 462 interns.
